Description

This Practical Guide provides a foundation to the management of catchments. Catchments, because of their nature, may appear at first to be difficult to manage, especially if they service a range of different users including drinking water supply, agriculture and recreation. However, a thorough understanding of the catchment characteristics, along with stakeholder engagement, increases the chances of producing safe drinking water.

The Practical Guide to Understanding and Managing Surface Water Catchments has an introduction into the importance of good catchment management, as well as understanding the characteristics of the system. There is a chapter on hazards, risks and control measures for managing drinking water from catchment to tap.

Conducting site surveys and risk assessments are covered in individual chapters, as is monitoring auditing and review of control measures. There is a dedicated chapter on the implementation of catchment protection programs to improve water quality.
