Ron started in the water industry with the Bendigo Water Board and first joined WIOA in 1985. In the late 1980s he formed his own company – Australian Pollution Engineering.

Ron was instrumental in incorporating a trade display into the Victorian conference which added a new dimension and purpose to the conference. Not only did the delegates get to hear technical papers and network with their industry colleagues, but they now had the opportunity to see, compare and in many cases, actually test the latest equipment from a range of suppliers. The exhibition became an integral part of the event and the Victorian model has now been duplicated in NSW and Queensland.

Ron is a life member of WIOA and much of the success of the conferences is a result of Ron’s work and vision. In recognition of his contribution to the association, the company that presents the Best Exhibition Site at the conferences is awarded the Ron Bergmeier Award.

The award criteria looks at:

• Presentation and innovation in the exhibition
• The use of interactive displays and equipment that delegates can touch
• Novel ideas and engagement of attendees

The winner receives a half-page colour Utility Magazine advertisement in the next edition of the Utility Magazine valued at $2,000 and a 12 month WIOA Corporate Membership
