2018 Conference & Exhibition Dates

WIOA is pleased to announced the 2018 dates for our conference and exhibitions in NSW, Queensland and Victoria.  The venues in NSW and Queensland are still to be confirmed but we will be once again holding the Victorian event in Bendigo.

WIOA 2018 Water Operations Conference and Exhibition Dates:

NSW – Wednesday 11 April & Thursday 12 April
Queensland – Wednesday 6 June & Thursday 7 June
Victoria in Bendigo – Wednesday 5 September & Thursday 6 September

All WIOA corporate members will be advised on the date that site sales will commence for these events about a week prior.  We will be making substantial changes to the application to exhibit to ensure the process is even for all our members.

Water industry in the news – Carolyn Webb

Great article published in The Age by Carolyn Webb on Thursday 7 September.

It is fantastic to have a good news water story on the front page of The Age celebrating the operational employees, the water businesses and the entire water industry. Many of the treatment facilities across the country have background stories that are facilitating, and this years Victoria’s 2017 Best Tasting Tap Water from the small town of Merrijig is no different.

WIOA Victorian Award Winners Announced

Congratulations to all the award winners from the 80th WIOA Victorian Water Industry Operations Conference held in Bendigo.

Awards presented for papers and posters as well as the competitive mains tapping competition and Water taste test all contributed to another successful event with over 1400 in attendance.

Glenn Taggart from Central Highlands Water was announced as the 2017 Victorian Operator of the Year at the WIOA Awards Dinner. Glenn won the award ahead of the other finalist in David Bedggood from North East Water and Dion Bull from Gippsland Water who also are congratulated.

The Victorian Young Operator of the Year Award was taken out by Mae Jobson from Gippsland Water and the Victorian Network Operator of the Year was won by Russell Sunderland from Goulburn Valley Water. Both Mae and Russell will now join the 2018 WIOA tour of New Zealand for winning these awards.

A highlight of the event was the awarding of LIFE Membership of WIOA to Peter Tolsher – congratulations Tolsh on a well deserved recognition for your work and dedication to our association.

Kwatye Award Winner Announced

Congratulations to Max Gray from Trility in South Australia on being awarded the 2017 Kwatye Award that is proudly sponsored by Thermo Fisher Scientific.

 

Victorian Mains Tapping Competition

We are pleased to announce a mains tapping competition will be held at the WIOA Victorian Conference in Bendigo on 6 & 7 September 2017. The competition is supported by Reece Civil and registrations for this event are now being accepted. $1,000 will be donated to a charity as selected by the winning team. Register your team of 2 before 18 August 2017.

Distribution Seminars in NSW

WIOA will be conducting a number of the highly regarded – one day Water Quality Awareness and Distribution System Management seminars in NSW. Each session is limited to the first 40 registrations. Thursday 14 September – Cowra

SA Operator of the Year

Consider nominating operational employees who have excelled in the workplace for the prestigious South Australian Operator of the Year award. Nominations close on 22 September 2017.

South Australian Operator of the Year – Nomination Form

Tasmania’s Tap Water Recognised

WIOA is pleased to announce the Best Tasting Tap Water in Tasmania from the Fenton scheme that supplies water to parts of Hobart.

16 samples from across the state were judges at a water interest day held on Launceston on 2 August 2017.

The sample will now go on to represent Tasmania against the other state winning samples to find Australia’s Best Tasting Tap Water.  The National competition will be held in Launceston on 18 October 2017.

Morgan WTP wins SA Water Taste Test

Congratulations to the SAWater operators from the Morgan Water Treatment Plant on winning the 2017 South Australian Taste Test. This is the first time a facility has won a WIOA taste test for the second time anywhere in Australia. More information & link to photos
