We’re seeking a practical problem solver with a passion for wastewater treatment to join our Lagoon Wastewater Treatment team at North East Water!

About the role

The SOSO Lagoon Wastewater Treatment plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless and efficient operations of the lagoon-based wastewater treatment systems while supporting the lagoon wastewater team.

This role is a full-time, limited tenure opportunity for 2 years, including a monthly RDO and flexible work options. The general hours of work are between 7am and 4:30pm and once deemed competent, you will be required to participate in a seven-day on call roster every 3-4 weeks which operates from a Tuesday until the following Tuesday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operational Oversight: Ensure smooth operations of the lagoon-based wastewater treatment system by actively participating in and overseeing critical operational tasks, addressing issues promptly to maintain service quality.
  • Data Management: Utilize AMIS, GIS, and SCADA systems to gather, assess, and report on essential operational data, driving efficiency and ensuring informed decision-making.
  • System Optimization: Regularly evaluate the performance and functionality of AMIS, GIS, and SCADA systems, and implement system upgrades or enhancements as required.

Work within, assist, promote and continually develop NEW’s Environmental Management System, Safety Management System and the Risk Management System.

  • Safety Protocols: Enforce Occupational Health and Safety standards, ensuring that both the team and the public remain protected during lagoon-based wastewater treatment activities.
  • Coordinator Support: Act as a primary point of assistance to the Lagoon Wastewater Treatment Coordinator, offering insights, feedback, and hands-on support in various lagoon-based wastewater treatment initiatives and projects.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Relay essential updates or gather feedback regarding operations to ensure continued customer trust and satisfaction.
  • Emergency Responses: Lead and support rapid response initiatives during emergencies or disruptions, leveraging expertise to minimize impact and achieve swift recovery.
  • Operation, Inspections and Maintenance: Develop the support of and maintain lagoon wastewater treatment plant maintenance plans and budgets.
  • Records and Reporting: Apply and carry out documented procedures outlined in the wastewater treatment guidelines. Enter all lagoon wastewater treatment data into existing digital systems.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Ability to think practically with excellent problem-solving skills.
  2. Demonstrated experience in a supervisory position leading and mentoring a team with the ability to lead with a safety-first mindset.
  3. Knowledge and/or understanding of lagoon wastewater treatment processes.
  4. Certificate III in wastewater treatment (or equivalent), or experience in the water industry and demonstrated progress towards achieving these qualifications.
  5. Current driver’s licence (required). Medium rigid truck license, high-risk work licenses and/or competencies (desired but willingness to obtain is essential).

Position Information

  • An attractive salary range of $78,527 to $88,313 plus 11.5% superannuation, depending on skills and experience. This role attracts additional remuneration through allowances and participation in an on-call roster.
  • This is a full time, limited tenure position for 2 years.
  • Successful applicants will be required to undertake pre-employment checks including a police check and/or pre-employment medical and functional testing where applicable.
