Barwon Water, Intelligent Water Networks and Deakin University are working collaboratively on a smart sewer network trial.
The township of Lorne was selected due to its transient population during school holidays and long weekends vs it’s residential population.
These changes in population impact directly on the flows and demand on the sewer reticulation network.
The project involves increasing sewer intelligence by introducing real time sewer network instrumentation, then developing smart algorithms that allows the water corporation to make informed, real time decisions on how they manage the network.
This new intelligence will optimise maintenance activities with improved customer and environmental outcomes.
And also demonstrated the advantage of working on an industry topic in collaboration.
