WIOA welcomed local members and peers from across the operational water sector to a highly engaging and hands‑on Interest Day held on Wednesday, 8 April at the Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre, followed by an exclusive afternoon tour of the Gold Coast Desalination Plant.
With 26 attendees, the day provided a valuable opportunity for participants to learn from frontline operators, exchange practical insights, and explore real‑world challenges faced in day‑to‑day water operations.
The program featured a series of informative presentations, including:
- Robinson Crusoe Operations 2022 and Seqwater’s Flood Preparation Program – Tony Schultz, Seqwater
- Best Practice: Membrane Loader Innovation at Gold Coast Desalination Plant – George Belizia, Veolia

The day concluded with an insightful site tour of the Gold Coast Desalination Plant, led by WIOA QLD Advisory Committee Chair George Belizia (Veolia Water), giving attendees a firsthand look at plant operations and innovations in practice.
