SMS (Sewer Maintenance Shaft) Pty Ltd is a proudly owned Australian company established in 2003 to manufacture and supply specialist products to the water industry. A quality accredited company, complying with AS/NZISO9001, SMS is located at 9A Colemans Road, Carrum Downs, VIC 3201. SMS has extensive experience and expertise in development of innovative products for the Australian water industry.

SMS Polypropylene maintenance shafts and chambers provide a low cost and safe alternative to traditional concrete manholes in sewerage and drainage systems. Since 2003, more than 20,000 shafts have been installed. These products are imported from Europe.

The range utilises RRJ sockets, with custom angled shafts assembled on the day of order with no fabrication required. SMS also stock a full range of maintenance shaft and chamber fittings including: access covers, caps, bends, junctions, drop tees etc.

The SMS range has been appraised as: WSAA Products Appraisal Report 137 Part 1, with product certification to WSA 137:2013 Industry Standard for Maintenance Shafts and Maintenance Chambers for Sewerage. Smart Lock is a structural pipeline repair product that revolutionizes in situ sewer and water pipeline repair. It provides trenchless point repair of damaged and defective in situ pipes caused by installation defects, soil movement, water infiltration, tree root infestation, construction and site damage and any other structural defects.

Smart Lock is a superior and permanent solution for end capping of redundant sewer lines and laterals.

Historically, felt liners and fiberglass patches have been the preferred method for repairing localised faults in pipes. Existing systems require lengthy cure times, making them labour and equipment intensive, and costly.

Smart Lock combines both proven fiberglass and mechanical point repair technologies into one efficient solution. The expandable locking system is manufactured from the highest grade of 3.16 stainless steel and has an external silicate impregnated glass mat. Smart Lock has been designed and developed with the installer and asset owner in mind.

With easy installation procedures, taking only around 20 minutes, Smart Lock can be installed into pipes that would traditionally requires costly bypass pumping and site management. With increased strength, and with reduced wear compared to traditional point repairs, Smart Lock is a step change when it comes to installing point repairs. Smart Lock is available in sizes from DN100mm to DN750mm in one piece units and DN900mm to 1500mm in two piece units.

The unit has been designed and manufactured in Victoria to withstand Australian conditions and to meet all appropriate industry standards.

Cooma-Monaro Shire was created in 1981 by the amalgamation of the Cooma Municipality and Monaro Shire and is located on the tableland in the South East corner of the State of NSW. Cooma is the only major town in the Shire which includes four (4) villages – Bredbo, Michelago, Nimmitabel and Numeralla. Michelago was incorporated into the Shire in 2004 when Yarralumla Shire was dissolved.

Cooma has modern water supply and wastewater treatment facilities. Bredbo has a chlorinated water supply and Nimmitabel has a wastewater scheme and chlorinated, mixture of river and bore water supply. Michelago and Numeralla do not have public water supply or wastewater schemes.

Cooma is the management and operations centre for the Snowy Mountains Scheme. Agriculture and Tourism are the predominant industries.
