Westernport Water’s core functions are to provide drinking water, recycled water and wastewater services to properties and communities throughout our district.
We are responsible for servicing 21,916 customers from 27 townships across an area covering 300 square kilometres, encompassing Millowl (Phillip Island) and mainland communities from The Gurdies to Archies Creek.
The region has one of the highest ratios of visitors to residents of any destination in Australia. During peak periods, there can be approximately 120 visitors to every resident.

About the role
Senior Water Treatment Operator-Ongoing, Full time
Band 5 ($77,132 to $98,068)
The Senior Water Treatment Operator will lead the operation of Westernport Water’s water storage and water treatment facilities including disinfection and other ancillary treatment systems in accordance with best practice and required Statutory, Regulatory and Corporate service standards to achieve required water quality parameters.
This role is a full-time ongoing opportunity, including a monthly RDO and flexible work options. The role is based at Ian Bartlett Water Purification Plant in Almurta, Victoria. The usual hours of work are between 7am and 4:30pm. Once deemed competent, you will be required to participate in a seven-day on call roster every 4 weeks from a Thursday to Thursday.
Key Responsibility Areas
- Lead the operations & compliance of WPW’s water storage and treatment facilities and disinfection processes to ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and corporate standards, including drinking water quality and safety systems
- Manage and monitor daily operations of WPW’s water treatment facilities, data analysis, and performance improvements while actively contributing to system enhancements aligned with relevant guidelines acts and regulations including safe drinking water, dam safety and water treatment chemicals
- Lead WPW’s treatment team, support workforce training and development to build a skilled and suitably resource workforce equipped to deliver water treatment services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including participation in an after-hours on call roster
- Adhere to and promote a strong safety culture, manage risks, support emergency plans, and ensure OHS compliance across treatment facilities and operational teams
- Manage contractors, budgets and oversee procurement to maintain service and quality standards
- Provide timely reports, insights, and recommendations to management, executive teams, and regulatory bodies on water quality and operations, demonstrating strong communication and collaboration skills
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate III in Water Treatment Operations (mandatory)
- At least 5 years of experience in water treatment operations or equivalent in a related field
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff in an operational environment
- Demonstrated experience working with and overseeing contractors
- Current Victorian driver’s license
- Experience in wastewater treatment is highly regarded

- At least 5 years of experience in water treatment operations or equivalent in a related field
- Demonstrated experience supervising staff in an operational environment

- Current Victorian driver’s license
