About the role

  • The Water Treatment Operator will monitor, control and operate the Mt Kynoch Water Treatment Plant and associate facilities, also assist Systems Control with the operation of other treatment and production facilities within Toowoomba’s bulk water supply system to maintain a safe and reliable water supply which complies with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and the Water Supply (Safety and Reliability) Act 2008.
  • The wage for this position is $1,166.49 gross per week plus 17.5% annual leave loading and up to 12.4% superannuation.
  • Two (2) permanent full-time positions.

  • This position involves the provision of after-hours support for operational requirements.

  1. The mandatory qualifications, training and/or experience as outlined in the “Position Success Criteria” of the attached Position Description.
  2. Technical Skills and Abilities
    • Undertake the operation of water treatment plants and associated infrastructure to achieve compliance with relevant statutory requirements and guidelines.
    • Comply with the requirements of the Toowoomba Regional Council Integrated Environmental Management System.
    • Assist in the development and ongoing maintenance of Quality and HACCP systems, including Drinking Water Quality Management Plans.
    • Experience in the use of relevant systems used to control, monitor and adjust operational infrastructure.
  3. Communication and Interpersonal Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to understand directions and to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ability to provide high level customer service to all relevant stakeholders ensuring a professional and seamless customer experience.
  4. Organisational and Problem-Solving Skills
    • Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritise and rectify problems which may occur throughout the area of work in relation to water treatment.
  5. Information, Communication and Technology Skills
    • Experience in the use of computer programs for the collection and review of water quality data.
    • Ability to operate multiple computer applications, or the ability to quickly acquire the ability to do so.
  6. Understanding of and commitment to Council’s Organisational Value and Behaviour of “Teamwork”.
