GENERAL POSITION INFORMATION

To undertake verification water sampling throughout the Shire and as per the schedule, maintain procedures,
answer laboratory enquiries and manage the stock and inventory of sample bottles.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Preparation and organisation of water sample bottles, reagents and eskies

• Taking of water samples throughout the Shire (Biloela, Moura, Goovigen, Wowan, Baralaba, Banana, Theodore and Taroom), following a schedule.

• Liaising with operators and the Senior Compliance and Reporting Officer for any operational issues that may arise or affect sampling

• Complete data entry for laboratory analysis results

• Package up the samples and arrange freight

• Liaise with laboratories and freight companies as required

• Maintain stock of supplies for testing (sample bottles, reagents, ice bricks, etc)

• Undertake routine administrative tasks as required by the position eg. timesheets

• Assist senior staff to continuously improve work processes and develop new practices as required

• Participate in training, exercises and response to disaster management and recovery as required

• Undertake other relevant duties as directed, consistent with skills, competence and training.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND LICENCE REQUIREMENTS
Compulsory
• Current class C manual drivers licence
• Certificate in Water Sampling consistent with AHCLPW313 Undertake sampling and testing of water or
willingness to obtain

 

 

ABILITIES, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Compulsory
• Sound level computer skills (including use of MS Office Suite)
• Sound level of literacy, numeracy, oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a busy team; establish work priorities and manage
changes to work schedules; meet deadlines; exercise sound judgement and initiative; desire to learn
and maintain confidentiality.
• Demonstrated organisational ability and a high-level attention to detail.
• Preference for driving and working both indoors and outdoors.
• Ability to work alone or as part of a team
• Sound understanding of and commitment to EEO and WHS principles and practices

 

Desirable
• Proven ability to acquire new skills and learn new software programs and processes.
• Working knowledge of specialist database / task management software (eg. SWIMS Local)

SPECIFIC CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• The employee acknowledges that this role requires them to hold and maintain a class ‘C’ manual drivers
licence and that the loss of licence may jeopardise employment with Council
