About the role

In this role you will effectively operate Townsville City Council’s Wastewater Treatment Plants to achieve target effluent quality, cost and safety objectives. This include monitoring, recording and reporting on all facets of operation and compliance.

You will perform basic maintenance activities and housekeeping, including cleaning of plant and equipment and liaise with operators, supervisors, consultants and contractors on a technical level expected of the position.

About you

Our ideal candidate will have experience in the operation of municipal wastewater treatment plants or 12 months in other process industries, a Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (Wastewater Treatment) or proven equivalent knowledge and experience and desirably a White Card (Construction Industry).

You will have knowledge of, the ability to interpret and undertake laboratory testing and analysis of results in relationship to treatment plant operation and the ability to take corrective measures, knowledge of mathematical formulas and calculations required for plant operations to monitor plant performance and ensure compliance with environmental and health requirements and the ability to read and understand mechanical and civil engineering drawings and manuals. You will also have knowledge of the operation, maintenance and monitoring of treatment technology and processes.

Desirable skills and experience include a forklift certificate, training in biological nutrient removal and membrane treatment processes, First Aid Certificate, Confined space and Trade certificate within the electrical or mechanical field.

There is a requirement for rotation through all Council’s wastewater treatment plants as required and participation in the on-call roster. Overtime is available after hours and during weekends when required.
