Join our team as a Water Industry Worker Team Leader

Lead a small crew to deliver high-quality reactive and planned maintenance, non-routine construction, and property connection services across Redland City’s water and wastewater networks. You’ll be responsible for ensuring works are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while promoting a strong safety culture and supporting positive outcomes for the community. Council will provide training and support to help you gain the full industry qualifications required for the role, offering a clear pathway for career progression.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a crew to deliver safe, timely and high-quality maintenance and construction services
  • Supervising day-to-day operations while fostering teamwork, fairness, and cooperation
  • Ensuring compliance with water industry standards, regulations, and best practices
  • Promoting and maintaining a strong safety-first culture in all work activities
  • Providing technical advice and problem-solving support for operational challenges
  • Driving innovation and continuous improvement in work methods and practices
  • Maintaining accurate work records, job costing, and system updates
  • Building positive relationships with customers and stakeholders through clear communication

Skills and experience:

  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support a work crew in a field-based environment
  • Demonstrated success delivering water/wastewater maintenance and construction services
  • Strong interpersonal skills with experience in training, conflict resolution, and motivation
  • Physically capable of performing a wide range of manual and labouring tasks
  • Sound knowledge of WHS regulations and commitment to promoting a safety-first culture
  • Strong customer service focus with the ability to negotiate and resolve issues effectively
  • Confident decision-making in complex operational situations
  • Proficient in administration, record keeping, and clear written and verbal communication

Eligibility:

(Please review the attached position description for the full list of eligibility requirements. Council will support the successful applicant in meeting any criteria marked as ‘ability to obtain’ within the timeframes outlined):

  • Current Class C driver’s licence
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the water industry
  • You’ll have the ability and fitness to perform manual and physically demanding tasks
  • Hold a Construction White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry)
  • Ability to participate in the after-hours on-call roster, including weekends and public holidays
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Confined Space Entry Certificate
  • The legal right to work in Australia
