Are you an experienced water treatment operator, looking to pass your knowledge on to the next generation of operators and mentor a team?  

Central Highlands Regional Council is currently seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Water Treatment Mentor to join the dynamic team based in Emerald (but working throughout the Shire).

In this new and exciting role you will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding water and wastewater treatment operators across the shire. The position will be responsible for providing mentorship, training, and technical assistance to treatment personnel to ensure the delivery of services to the community. The position will assist to support and develop treatment operators of all levels, particularly operators who are new to the industry. The position will also liaise with council’s Training and Development team to support operators to successfully complete relevant accredited and non-accredited training and study as required.

In this busy role, you will support the organisation by:

Provide guidance and mentorship to water and wastewater treatment personnel, including operators and technicians.
Liaise with council’s Training and Development team to support the delivery of training programs to enhance the skills and knowledge of treatment staff.
Offer technical support in the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment facilities, including pump stations, bore sites, reservoirs, etc.
Provide technical support to the treatment team to achieve a high level of service and compliance.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to maintain compliance with relevant standards.
Be available for emergency response duties. Participate in an on-call roster system and undertake after-hours or weekend operational tasks and reactive activities.
Undertake and demonstrate methods accurately to take samples of water and wastewater. Demonstrate and undertake analysis within the laboratory or package for external laboratory testing. Exercise attention to detail and accuracy of data in reporting to the regulator.
Follow standard operating procedures and directions and mentor other operators in these procedures.

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need to possess:

Minimum of Queensland C class provisional drivers’ licence
General Construction Induction Card.
Certificate III in Water Industry Operations (or equivalent or higher) with relevant elective units and significant experience. Alternative, relevant, qualifications may also be considered (e.g. Degree in Chemical Engineering, Science with significant relevant experience).
Working Safely at Height, Breathing Apparatus, Confined Space Statement of Attainments or willingness and ability to obtain
Advanced knowledge of water and wastewater treatment plant operations as well as planned and reactive maintenance activities.
Demonstrated experience operating SCADA systems.
Significant field experience in a water and/or wastewater treatment.
Ability to understand data, trends, and patterns to identify possible issues in advance and escalate where required.
Competent computer skills and experience using programs in the Microsoft Office suite.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact positively and effectively to mentor and develop water and wastewater treatment operators.
Ability to lead discussions in problem solving and be proactive in providing solutions.
Strong time management skills with an ability to adapt to meet learner needs as require
