The workshop will provide a practical learning opportunity for all professionals engaged in the provision of safe drinking water, including operators, supervisors, managers, public health officials and responsible public authorities.

This exciting program examines a number of case studies from around the world and will include discussions designed to encourage participants to think about how the case study experience would apply to conditions at the facility that each participant is either responsible for or familiar with.




The multiple registrations excel file can be used to reserve a number of delegates for this workshop, the Registration Form and payment arrangements also need to be completed.

Afternoon Session - Distribution System Contamination

  • Freuchie, Scotland (over 600 cases of E. coli O157:H7 in a village of 1000)
  • Nokia, Finland (thousands ill, 2 deaths, mixed pathogens)
  • Camelford, UK (post treatment distribution system contamination, hundreds affected, 25 years of inquiries with no end in sight)

Closing session
The closing session will wrap up both morning and afternoon sessions. It will look at high level perspectives on what is required to ensure the consistent delivery of safe drinking water and why having a functional, effective drinking water safety plan is essential.

4.00pm Seminar Ends

This one day workshop is based on the book Ensuring Safe Drinking Water – Learning from Frontline Experience with Contamination, co-authored by Steve E. Hrudey and Elizabeth J. Hrudey and published by the American Water Works Association (AWWA).

WIOA will arrange for a bulk print run of this book on behalf of participants, an order form will be available at the seminar.
