About the WIOA Victorian Conference
The Victorian Conference was first organised in 1938 by the late Mr. E. A. Hepburn of the Victorian Health Commission and continued for the next 41 years under their auspice. For the next nine years, organisation lay with the Water Industry Training Centre. In later years the Conference has been organised by the WIOA with strong support from the Industry.
- Distribution of the latest technical and research based information through platform and poster presentations.
- Update of knowledge and operational staff skills through interaction with fellow Water Industry employees.
- Provide the opportunity to view and discuss the latest advances in technical equipment with suppliers and trade consultants.
Preference is given to papers which provide information on the latest advances in water technology or that provide practical solutions to operational issues. There is usually a mixture of papers sourced from hands-on "operators", trade based representatives and industry technical experts.
In recognition of the late Mr. Hepburn, an annual award is presented for the paper judged 'Best Overall'.
To encourage Industry Operators, 'Actizyme' provides a substantial award for the 'Best Paper Presented by a WIOA Member'.
As an additional incentive to operators, the Water Industry Training Centre provides an award for the "Best Poster Paper by an Operator".
The Victorian Branch of AWA presents 'The Operator of the Year' award at the Conference. This award is judged by the AWA following nominations direct from Water Authorities and/or private industry companies employing operators.
Trade companies supplying goods or services to the water industry are extremely supportive of the conference and use it as a vehicle to demonstrate the latest advances in technology to delegates.
This support, along with sponsorship from the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment is paramount in allowing our Association to present a high standard Conference at a reasonable cost to Industry participants.
